Mrs. Blue Zone: Natasja Hoekstra
At 15, I first visited the Greek island of Ikaria. Though unaware of Blue Zones, I noticed their relaxed lifestyle—no one wears a watch and the buses never run on time.
Years later, I met my partner, who also loved Ikaria. We revisited Ikaria with our kids, and time seemed to had stand still for the locals.
In Amsterdam, I live like a ‘Blue Zoner’: I almost always eat unprocessed plant-based food, feel fitter at 50 than ever before, prefer walking and cycling over driving, enjoy naps, and value family and friends. With our six children, I cherish shared meals. Despite challenges, I’m positive and grateful, drawing strength from my psychology studies and mental coach training. In 2020, I left my Greek restaurant to follow my life’s purpose: helping others become their best selves, healthier and happier.
Mr. Blue Zone: Jeroen Duijvestijn
For over twenty years, I have enjoyed working in (corporate) communications and organizational development as a reputation manager, communications advisor, and organizational consultant for (semi) public organizations. I am also deeply interested in the relationship between vitality, job satisfaction, and personal effectiveness.
With Mr. & Mrs. Blue Zone, I aim to help organizations create an environment where vital employees can joyfully reach their potential. I believe we can learn so much from the Blue Zones. which serve as real-life laboratories complementing existing literature on vitality, motivation, and personal development.
